Alzheimer’s disease represents a degenerative neurological condition leading to the shrinkage (atrophy) of the brain and the death of its cells, making it the primary cause of dementia. Dementia is characterized by a progressive deterioration in cognitive, behavioral, and social skills, severely impairing an individual's ability to operate independently.

In the year 2020, approximately 5.8 million individuals in the United States were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and forecasts suggest this figure could soar to 14 million by 2060. It stands as the leading reason for memory loss in adults.

To date, there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, and until recent times, the only treatments available were medications and various management approaches aimed at temporarily easing the symptoms.
