Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is caused by an external mechanical force impacting the brain, which can lead to temporary or permanent impairments in cognitive, physical, and psychosocial functions, along with a possibly altered state of consciousness. It is a significant global health issue and a leading cause of disability worldwide, with annual incidences estimated between 27 to 69 million cases.

Concussions, a form of TBI, vary widely in severity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 138 individuals are affected by TBI daily. The primary causes of TBI are falls, blunt trauma, vehicle-related injuries, violent assaults, and blast injuries.

Hyperbaric therapy has proven beneficial in enhancing recovery from TBI by reducing hypoxia and neuroinflammation and improving cerebral circulation. This treatment has also shown to effectively complement other therapies, such as standard intensive rehabilitation, helping to speed up recovery for TBI patients.
